Make sure your outsourcing for the right reasons:
Taking a bad business process and outsourcing it only makes matters worse. An outsourcing provider should add value to your business, but problems within your business shouldn’t be fixed by them. Deal with primary problems first, only then should you outsource. Otherwise you’re just heading for disaster, and will incur more costs.
Make sure you complete a thorough Vendor Selection Process
According to ‘Deloitte Consulting – Outsourcing Report (2008) a reasonable fraction of business owners/managers said they wish that they had taken the time to complete a thorough vendor selection process before entering into a contract. A vendor selection process will give you any, or indeed all of the reasons NOT to go into business with a certain company. Without this process complete, you could be heading for disaster.
What is the Vendor Selection Process?
Outsource
Outsource
Every company looking to outsource should go through the Vendor Selection Process, which in a nut shell will determine which outsource provider is right for you. Choosing the right vendor (outsource provider) can seem frightening at first if you don’t know how to approach the situation from the start. The selection process aims to remove any doubts. Analyze your business requirements so that you are 100 percent clear ion what you need from a vendor. Firstly it is imperative that you yourself understand the product or service being outsourced and secondly, what you expect from a vendor in return. Can they (the vendor) meet your requirements? In addition to this you also need to know the vendors requirements! They are a business too don’t forget, they are going to have requirements as well. Can you adhere to the vendors requirements? Once you know what you expect, you can then discuss with the vendor to see what they expect back. Only once this is done should you really sign on the dotted line!
