First-time S/D Conferene Attendee Guidance

This year Schedulers and Dispatchers attracted 125 first-time attendees, and to help them get the most out of the conference, organizers offered several orientation tools. In the weeks before the show, a series of webcasts described what attendees should expect at the show and presented tips for success.

The committee also offered a pre-conference preparation guide that contained, in addition to basic pointers such as not forgetting to bring plenty of business cards or to wear comfortable shoes, a list of exhibitors. Newcomers were encouraged to make a list of those companies they would gain the most benefit in visiting.

“I was impressed, especially with the pre-preparation,” said LuAnn Zimmerman, a scheduler for Kimberly Clark and a first time S&D attendee. “The telephone conference that we had so we knew exactly what to bring and what not to bring and what the conference was about was key to knowing what was going to happen before I got here so I could plan my days better.”

Newly revived this year was the voluntary “wingman” program, where some first-time show visitors were paired with veteran attendees who agreed to escort them and provide advice. The partners made contact before the show and the pairs met at the first-time attendees orientation session held the evening before the conference began.
