DON'T believe the fake 'Martin Lewis' or 'MSE' ads |
New. Top 0% credit card and/or easy free £25 This site was built on showing you how to use credit cards the right way, and how to manipulate them so you gain if you can. These deals are fewer and further between these days, but this one caught our eye. Yes, it's encouraging you to spend, but done right, that can be neutered to allow you to grab a freebie AND/OR cut the cost of any essential borrowing, without it costing you a penny (though if you're not financially savvy, or don't trust yourself with credit cards, stay safe, don't bother).

A bye-bye, for now, from me (Martin). Car finance was the last straw! Only kidding... but for the next few weeks, I'm taking a mini summer sabbatical, to focus on family, fitness and poor golf, so I can recharge my and my laptop's batteries for a big autumn & winter coming. While I'm off, the site, plus the next few emails, will be in the overly-capable hands of the MSE team. Martin: Three big things that can stop you getting accepted for a mortgage. Fur-get sky high vet bills... insure your pet for less Unlike for us humans, there's no NHS for pets, so without cover a trip to the vet can leave you footing a huge bill. Treatment prices have soared in recent years, and though the Competition and Markets Authority is investigating, it's just pushed back the deadline to publish its findings to next May, so don't expect any quick fixes. In the meantime, our Cheap pet insurance guide has the full info on how to cut the cost of insurance, but in brief...

THIS WEEK'S POLL How do you rate your mobile network's service and coverage? We want to find out how each provider rates for service (how it treats you) and coverage (how strong the signal is when you need it). In truth, there are only four main networks providing signals - the rest use these, but under their own brands (see our mobile networks guide for who piggybacks on who). Please rate the firm that sends your mobile phone bill. Vote in this week's poll. |
MONEY MORAL DILEMMA Who should pay to change the holiday our neighbours encouraged us to book? Our neighbours mentioned that a local group were going on a river cruise and encouraged us to join them, so we booked it. Later, the trip organiser told us others in the group were adamant we shouldn't go because they don't know us. He asked us to either move or cancel our booking, which will cost up to £200. Should we cancel or go on the holiday anyway? If we cancel, should we ask for a contribution from our neighbours and / or the group? We sympathise with the organiser, but why should we be out of pocket when we were encouraged to book?
